With one Massage Therapist and one part time instructor, the Massage and Relaxation Techniques Program takes a holistic approach toward helping clients achieve their personal goals, which can range from increasing or maintaining physical mobility to finding ways to reduce personal conflicts before they escalate. The techniques used in the program differ and include body massage, breathing exercises, aromatherapy, pressure point therapy and sensory experiences to name just a few.
Virginia Milcoff is a Massage Therapist certified to perform the techniques of Rieki, Kruna, Energy Light, Body Balancing, Cranial Sacral, and Healing Touch. These techniques are used the world over, known for their full-body calming, balancing, lengthening, and therapeutic properties. Bridgette Decker specializes in relaxation and reflexology techniques for the upper body.
In a typical one-to-one session, the client works on relaxation techniques, including breathing exercises and hand or foot reflexology (a massage technique that relates portions of the hand or foot to organs and parts within the entire body) and then allows the Instructor to massage his or her body, fully clothed, using massage techniques designed to increase the mobility and flexibility of the limbs.
Currently the department serves over 90 individuals, for an average of 4 hours per month. The department also travels to the Renewed Horizons building to provide services to some of our "retired" clients.
