Day Habilitation
Clients who participate in our community integration program learn
skills that will provide them with more confidence and enjoyment
in the community. Recreational volunteer opportunities are
also available. At the present time, we have clients participating in the following
volunteer activities:
- Meals on Wheels
- Area nursing home assistance
- Garden maintenance
- Food pantry and homeless shelter assistance
Daily Living Skills
Clients develop skills to promote community interaction, such as ordering food and eating in restaurants, moving safely in public places, and making basic purchases.
Prevocational Skills
For those who are unable to work a full day or are in need of basic work skill development, our prevocational area provides the
opportunity to learn these skills and earn a paycheck at the
same time. Instruction is provided at an eight-to-one client to staff ratio.
Massage Therapy
This program gives clients the opportunity to use relaxation
techniques to prevent conflict escalation. Clients with
limited mobility in their arms and legs are also able to retain
their range of motion and enjoy greater comfort.
Enrichment Program
Music, art and movement are the basic components of our enrichment
program. Certain opportunities, such as painting instruction,
exist in both the community and our in-house program. Clients
participate in group and one-on-one settings to learn about specific
artists and try artistic techniques. Clients
are also given the opportunity to listen to various types of
music and
to reproduce some of the rhythms that they hear.
Ceramics Program
Clients are given the opportunity for creative expression as they learn work skills by creating ceramic pieces for
the public to purchase. Clients earn wages for this work as well.
Daily Living Skills
Our daily living skills classes provide opportunities to learn
about personal appearance, social interactions, basic nutrition
and daily tasks, such as cooking. For those with limited attention
spans, extra time is devoted to working on motor skills and focusing
on tasks.
Personal Assistance
Assistance with eating, personal care, and time out of the wheelchair
can be provided for those who need it.
