Assistive Technology
With six qualified staff, we provide one-on-one instruction to almost 150
individuals. We instruct using adaptive and assistive hardware
and software. For example, we use enlarged stickers on the keyboards
for individuals who are visually impaired, touch-screens for
people unable to use a mouse, and specialized software for
those with cognitive impairments.
Each individual served has a personalized goal. They visit the
center for an average of six hours per month for instruction. Their
needs are assessed, and based on that assessment, our staff uses
Assistive Technology to meet client needs and help them reach their goals.
The Center also provides training and assessments for basic
typing skills, Internet, Microsoft Office Suite, voice recognition,
and
Quicken. The Center has a Blind Workstation that is designed with
specialized hardware and software for those who are visually impaired.
A Braille printer is also available.

We also produce a quarterly newsletter,
All Roads Lead to AT, featuring articles by staff and clients. Different
sections of the newsletter contain software and hardware information,
beneficial websites, and Deaf Culture articles including basic sign
language, poetry and jokes. Clients take special pride in typing articles and producing this project every quarter.
