GRANT AWARDED FOR DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE

Housing Opportunities, Inc. was among grant recipients receiving funds to assist with down payment for first time homebuyers. This grant, made possible in part by a grant from the City of LaPorte, is part of the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The funds will assist 5 families in LaPorte County with down payment assistance up to $5000 each. The program is structured as a match product and the CDBG funds will match 3:1 every dollar contributed up to $1667. Each family will need to provide at least a minimum of $500 of their own money. Qualifying individual’s income cannot exceed 80% of the area median income and they must complete a series of Homebuyer Education classes. The Homebuyer Education classes are provided by Housing Opportunities.
